چکیده

Sugar cane bagasse was crosslinked with epichlorohydrin in the presence of NH4OH or imidazole. The obtained water-insoluble products were characterized in terms of yield, anion-exchange capacity, packed volume, and dye-binding properties. Yields were highest using a 3 : 1 epichlorohydrin to NH4OH molar ratio, producing weak anion exchangers. The weak anion exchangers had low dye-binding capacities compared to their total anion-exchange capacities. A 2 : 1 epichlorohydrin-to-imidazole molar ratio proved best for making strong anion exchangers from bagasse. The strong anion exchangers had dye-binding capacities comparable to their anion-exchange capacities, indicating that they might be useful for removing anionic dyes from wastewater. q 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Effect of Eggshell on Mechanical Properties of Epichlorohydrin Cross-linked Chitosan/Eggshell Composites

The effect of eggshell particles on the mechanical properties of epichlorohydrin crosslinked chitosan/eggshell composites had been studied. The content of eggshell particles in each composites was varied from 2.5 to 13.4% (w/w). The tensile strength was 60% improved, compared to the control chitosan. The composite with 13.4% (w/w) content of eggshell particles showed the optimum tensile strengt...

Recombinant Protein A Immobilized on Cross-linked Cellulose Microspheres for Immunoglobulin G Adsorption from Human Plasma

Cross-linked cellulose microspheres (CL-CMs) were successfully prepared using an inverse crosslinking suspension method from a cellulose solution with sodium hydroxide/urea aqueous solution as a solvent and epichlorohydrin as the crosslinker. The effects of epichlorohydrin content on the appearance and dispersity, average pore volume, moisture content, and wet real density of CL-CMs were studie...

Characterization of anion diffusion in polymer hydrogels used for wastewater remediation

Ion exchange systems for the removal of nutrient pollutants, even at extremely low concentrations, from wastewater effluents are a major environmental need. This work reports on the features of batch sorption processes for the ultimate removal and recovery of reactive phosphorus, nitrogen, and sulfur anions from aquaculture production wastewater effluents. The sorbent used was a crosslinked pol...

Adsorption of Heavy Metals by Graphene Oxide/Cellulose Hydrogel Prepared from NaOH/Urea Aqueous Solution

By taking advantage of cellulose, graphene oxide (GO), and the process for crosslinking using epichlorohydrin (ECH), we propose a simple and novel method to prepare GO/cellulose hydrogel with good potential to adsorb metal ions. GO nanosheets containing carboxyl and hydroxyl groups were introduced into the surface of the cellulose hydrogel with retention of the gel structure and its nanoporous ...
